Socially engaged performance art
For more than two decades Sylvia Schwenk has created nearly 20 works of socially engaged performance art that bring together people from different communities and backgrounds. Over 2,000 people have participated, in spaces as diverse as streets, prisons, naval bases, football grand finals, cathedrals, public transport, model airplane fields, and art institutions across Australia, Europe, Asia, Canada, and the United States.
In recent years Sylvia has focused on her studio-based practice, expanding absurdity and deepening her engagement with the paintings of your thoughts become your world. The pandemic interrupted her public practice, and a serious injury in 2023 extended that pause. With her recovery complete, she is now available for new performance art commissions and collaborations.
Works are available as limited edition films and photographs.
